Field Work in Thmar Koul

On 15th March 2024. the PCRL project team conducted a field visit to Boeung Pring AC, Boeung Pring commune, Thma Koul district, Battambang province, a newly suggested AC by Battambang PDAFF. This field visit was led by Mrs. Tuy Sokheng and was hosted by Mr. Khat Borin, the commune chief of Boeung Pring and the head of AC.

The visit was to review the trajectory of the AC’s establishment, current business operation, and plans for the coming year, as well to discuss by-laws and the general management of the AC, contract farming, rice seed production, capacity building program of the AC, farmers' livelihoods, water and irrigation issues, and gender status.

Obviously, this commune has a large agricultural production potential with a significant area for dry-season rice. Under the Brolay No. 04 irrigation scheme, farmers are producing two cycles of rice, covering around 40,000 ha while in the area of Zone 2 of Tonle Sap, the farmers produce dry season rice covering around 6,000 ha. There is only one AC in the commune, but it not currently operating any business. It is reported that this Boeung Pring commune experienced many climate hazards, especially the rainfall flood that frequently damages agricultural production.
